The School of Automation (SOA) was founded in 2019 with a development of nearly 60 years. The number of faculty and staff is 166, including 48 professors and 54 associate professors，and has more than 10 leading talents including one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
One primary discipline---Control Science and Engineering, offering PhD and Postdoctoral programs, awarded as A minus in the first-level discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education in 2018. Electrical Engineering discipline offering Master’s Programs, Electronics Science and Technology discipline offering Master’s Programs. School has five undergraduate majors: automation, measurement and control technology and equipment, intelligent science and technology, electrical engineering and automation, and electronic information engineering. The total number of students is more than 3,000, including over 2,400 undergraduate students, nearly 500 postgraduate students, and nearly 200 doctoral students.

In recent years, the faculty has actively carried out research in the fields of intelligent optimization of manufacturing for complex industrial processes, rail transit informatization and electrical control, Intelligent Perception and Process Monitoring, meanwhile, school has made great achievements in scientific researches, such as Key technology of Optimization and control in nonferrous metallurgical processes, Key technology and automation devices for heavy metal wastewater optimization process, High performance operation information testing in large blast furnace ironmaking process, Fault diagnosis and fault testing techniques for the information control system of High-speed trains, Power electronic high efficiency energy saving control technology and device, Complex optimization evolutionary algorithm, Distributed optimization and control of multi-agent systems.
In recent years, SOA has undertaken more than 140 scientific research projects, including more than 90 nation-level projects, 2 National Natural Science Foundation Innovation Research Group Project, 5 Major projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, 10 National high-tech research and development programs.
SOA has won 18 scientific research awards, including 2 national awards and 8 ministerial and provincial awards, for making contributions to national economic contribution, social development, scientific and technological progress, and promotion to relevant industries.
In the past five years, over 540 peer-reviewered papers have been published in academic journals, including 225 papers indexed by SCI. More than 120 authorized patents for invention. We have published 16 monographs and translated works, one of which won the first prize in nonferrous metal industry publications.
Under the support from CSU and the base of "Intelligent Control and Decision Optimization for Manufacturing Process" (111 project) , SOA has organized several international and domestic conferences and established regular cooperation with overseas universities and institutes. There are on average more than 50 visits by internationally well-known scholars. The school has been established a long-term collaboration and student exchange program with International high-level academic institutions, such as New York University (USA), University of Pretoria (South Africa), Aalto University (Finland), Federation University Australia (Australia), University of Duisburg-Essen (Germany), University of Adelaide (Australia) and University of Alberta (Canada). SOA supports PhD candidates to study at the international high-level universities through joint-programs.
